IT Trends for the Coming Year

The end of the year is always a good time to reflect on the current year and prepare for the year ahead.

At this time, it's also interesting to take a broad look at trends that affect your business. What issues should you prepare for and what can you take advantage of? eNet is always here for you to share important IT news with you and to prepare you for the future.

As such, we've found a great summary article of interesting IT trends for the coming year:

  • The continued rise of mobile devices. "By 2015 media tablet shipments will reach around 50% of laptop shipments and Windows will likely be in third place behind Android and Apple," believes Gartner analyst David Cearley.
  • A long-term shift to Web apps as HTML5 becomes more capable. The key here will be the browsers' conformity in adapting to all the HTML5 can offer.
  • Personal cloud becomes the personal computer. Storage space is virtually limitless and access is immediate.
  • The Internet is not just for computers any more. Soon all your devices and perhaps even electronics and appliances will connect to the Internet.
  • Cloud computing. It's not just for storage space and backup, but serving real-time apps and software.
  • Actionable analytics. Low cost processing has opened up doors to perform simulations and more.
  • In-memory computing. Faster, faster, faster. Soon real-time analytical queries will be commonplace.
  • Virtual appliances integrated ecosystems. They won't be dominant, but their presence in IT operations will grow.
  • Enterprise app stores. More and more businesses will rely on the apps marketplace for everything needed to work and function.
