More Time-Saving Keyboard Shortcuts -
This Month for Microsoft Office

During the past two months, we shared some important power tips and time-saving shortcuts for Microsoft Outlook. This month, we feature keyboard shortcuts that work across the board in most Office applications.

Open and Save As Dialog Boxes
CTRL+F12 or CTRL+O = Display Open dialog box
F12 = Display Save As dialog box
ENTER = Open selected folder or file
BACKSPACE = Open folder one level above selected folder
SHIFT+F10 = Display shortcut menu for selected item
TAB = Move forward through options
SHIFT+TAB = Move back through options

Undoing and Redoing Actions
ESC = Cancel an action
CTRL+Z = Undo an action
CTRL+Y = Redo or repeat an action

Navigating the Ribbon (Menu System)
Using access keys, you can quickly use a command by pressing a few keys, regardless of where you are in the program. This may not work in earlier versions of Office, but every command in Word 2010, for example, can be accessed with an access key. You can get to most commands by using two to five keystrokes. Here's how to get started:
  1. Press ALT. The KeyTips are displayed over each feature that is available in the current view.
  2. Press the letter shown in the KeyTip over the feature that you want to use.
  3. Depending on which letter you press, you may be shown additional KeyTips.
  4. Continue pressing letters until you press the letter of the command or control that you want to use. In some cases, you must first press the letter of the group that contains the command.

So now you are just as fast and efficient in all Office programs as you are in Outlook. If you have additional questions on making the most of Office or other systems in your network, eNet Systems is here to help. Simply give us a call at
